The Ministry of Planning and Investment and Xaysana Energy Sole Company Limited have signed a Project Development Agreement (PDA) to conduct feasibility studies for the Nam E-moun 1 and Nam E-moun 2 hydropower projects in Laos. The projects are estimated to cost USD450 million and will have a combined installed capacity of 255 MW.
Xaysana Energy and Space Hydro Power Sole Company Limited are the main shareholders in the PDA and will also oversee the construction of a 75 MW hydropower dam, 100 MW pump storage and 50 MW floating solar power. It will combine power generated from both water and solar sources. Additionally, energy will also be generated by a pump storage system at night, when energy is not used during daytime.
The renewable energy (RE) electricity generated from the facilities will support the growing energy requirements in Vietnam while also allowing exports to neighbouring countries.
