The government of the Philippines has allocated PHP7.70 billion in its 2025 budget to upgrade 15 airports across the country. The funds will be used to enhance aviation infrastructure, including the construction and rehabilitation of runways, taxiways, ramps, control towers, and passenger terminals. The allocation will also cover the acquisition of navigational equipment to improve air travel efficiency and safety.

Moreover, these upgrades aim to enhance the passenger experience, attract more tourists, support small businesses, and generate jobs. Meanwhile, the consortium led by San Miguel Corp (SMC) has taken over operations at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and is implementing a PHP170.6-billion modernization plan for the country’s primary air hub. In 2024, the Philippines welcomed 5.44 million foreign tourists, an 8.7 per cent increase from the previous year, and expects a full recovery to pre-pandemic levels by 2025.
