Funan Techo Canal construction to start by 2025-End

The Government of Cambodia will begin construction of the USD1.7 billion Funan Techo Canal by the end of 2025, following the completion of land demarcation and technical verification. The 180 km canal project will connect Prek Takeo on the Mekong River to the sea in Kep province, traversing four provinces: Kandal, Takeo, Kampot, and Kep. Around 1.6 million people live along the canal’s proposed route.

Land demarcation inspection work in Kep’s Angkol commune is completed. Similar inspections were earlier conducted in the other affected provinces. The project involves 1,920 marker poles and includes two navigation lanes. The canal will be 100 metres wide upstream and 80 metres wide downstream. Construction is expected to take about four years to complete.
