The Government of Malaysia has announced major upgrades to its land and air transport systems as part of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), aiming to enhance national connectivity and economic development. The plan outlined the measures in Parliament, highlighting investments in public transport vehicles, aviation, and supporting infrastructure.
Under 13MP, the government will introduce: 1,200 new buses and 300 on-demand vans in major cities to improve first- and last-mile connectivity and ease commuter access to train stations; 217 new passenger train sets to increase rail service frequency and reliability, and 178 new aircraft to be acquired by local airlines to accommodate growing air travel demand.
Additionally, airport infrastructure across the country will be upgraded to support increased passenger and cargo volumes.
These initiatives are positioned to modernise Malaysia’s transport network, enhance mobility for urban and rural populations, and drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
