The Government of France and the European Union have launched two projects to modernise Cambodia’s power grid, backed by a combined investment of USD116 million. The Grid Modernisation project includes a USD29.3 million loan from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and a USD4.8 million EU grant to upgrade grid monitoring and control systems and increase the network’s capacity to integrate renewable generation.
The Sustainable Power Grid Development project is supported by a USD82 million AFD loan and will upgrade transmission lines and substations across several provinces, alongside the deployment of battery storage capacity. The programme also includes USD350,000 of equipment for Cambodia’s Institute of Electrical Science and a real-time power-system simulator to support training and research.
