Energy Development Corporation (EDC) has earmarked USD434 million for the expansion of the Southern Negros Geothermal Project (SNGP) in the Philippines. The budget will fund new well drilling, pad expansion, road and pipeline networks, and the integration of emerging technologies. The SNGP currently operates with a dependable capacity of 221.8 MW, spread across several geothermal plants, and aims to boost its infrastructure to enhance output.

In line with this, EDC secured an amended environmental compliance certificate in 2023, including plans for a 30-MW battery energy storage system. EDC’s continued geothermal expansion extends internationally, with projects in the Philippines and exploratory ventures in Indonesia.
