The Department of Transport (DOTr) of Philippines has awarded a project management contract for the first phase of the Mindanao rail project to a joint venture (JV) between China Railway Design Corporation (CRDC) and Guangzhou Wanan Construction Supervision Company Limited. The contract is valued at USD60 million and scope of work ranges from detailed design to revenue projection. The duration for the contract is for two-and-a-half years.

The Mindanao line will span over 102 km along the island’s southeast coast, connecting Tagum City, Davao City, and Digos City. This will be the first Philippines rail project outside of the main island of Luzon.  The line is scheduled to commence commercial operation by June 2023. It will eventually be extended to a 1,530 km circuit around the Mindanao Island in later phases.
