ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) will collaborate with Switzerland-based ABB Limited to execute an artificial intelligence (AI) energy optimisation pilot in Singapore. The pilot’s goal is to combine AI and machine learning (ML) technology along with analytics to optimise energy use of data centre in the country and lower overall carbon footprint.

The pilot will be carried out in two phases with the first phase focusing on an initial data analysis, modelling and evaluation. The second phase will involve the deployment of AI control logic in a live data centre environment. The goal of the pilot is to reduce cooling system energy consumption by at least 10 per cent. Improving cooling efficiency will enhance power usage effectiveness (PUE) and minimise the carbon footprint. The AI energy optimisation system is expected to offset 1,100 tonnes of carbon for every 10 MW of IT load used.

The organisations will also evaluate potential AI-based applications such as predictive maintenance, capacity management, security analytics, and other business activities.
