DOTC has started the evaluation of the technical and financial proposals submitted by five bidders for the PhP 1.72 billion rail automatic fare collection system (AFCS). The five pre-qualified consortiums are the AF Consortium, led by the Ayala and Metro Pacific groups; the SM Consortium; a group led by ComWorks; the E-Trans Solutions JV; and the Megawide–Suyen–Eurolink consortium. The AFSC project will upgrade the LRT and MRT ticketing scheme to a tap-and-go system that would reduce queuing time and allow seamless transfers from one rail line to another. Further, DOTC would announce the results between February and March 2014. The full implementation of the project is targeted for the third quarter of 2015.
