The Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) has granted a PHP115 million term loan to install six solar-powered irrigation systems (SPIS) in Lanao del Sur, Philippines. The SPIS will irrigate 1,200 hectares of agricultural lands and provide potable water to 26 barangays in Taraka.

An SPIS is a solar-powered autonomous irrigation system that collects water from deep wells or open sources and utilizes moisture sensors to manage water flow, leading to flood prevention and water conservation. The water is stored in irrigation channels or reservoirs before being supplied to agricultural lands.

The funding is a part of DBP’s efforts of establishing feasible irrigation systems to boost agricultural productivity in Lanao del Sur, in collaboration with the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA).
