Asia’s first cross-border renewable energy system has been commissioned in Laos. The 600 MW Monsoon wind farm in Attapeu province has begun commercial operations, delivering electricity across the border to Vietnam. The project was completed four months ahead of schedule.
A 27 km high-voltage transmission line connects the wind farm to Vietnam’s 500 kV transmission system. The project developer has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with Vietnam Electricity to supply power from the facility. The wind farm consists of 133 turbines supplied by Envision.
This marks the first wind farm to be commissioned in Laos, expanding the country’s renewable energy capacity while supporting Vietnam’s growing power demand through cross-border electricity trade.
