The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) confirmed that construction of the Purple Line Southern Extension had reached 53.4 per cent completion as of March 2025. The project spans 23.63 km from Tao Pun in Bangkok to Krunai Station in Phra Pradaeng, Samut Prakan, with 14.29 km underground and 9.34 km elevated.

Following a recent earthquake, MRTA officials conducted a safety inspection of the elevated section between Dao Khanong and Krunai. Authorities reaffirmed that all future construction materials must adhere to strict international standards, particularly regarding seismic resistance. The southern extension aims to strengthen Bangkok’s urban transport connectivity with suburban areas.
