Changi Airport has come out with a plan to develop Terminal 5 by 2025. The terminal will have the capacity to handle 50 million passengers per year, and will be located at Changi East. Currently, the airport has a capacity of 66 million passengers per year, and has two existing runways and three passenger terminals. It is expected to add a capacity of 19 million passengers per year by 2017 with the completion of Terminal 4. The total amount of reclaimed land required for Terminal 5 stands at 1,080 hectares. The terminal will be connected to the rest of the airport through a mass rapid transit system involving rail and bus. Further, the proposal also involves development of facilities for airfreight, maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities.
