The Japanese government is likely to renew its LNG supply contract withBrunei when the existing agreement expires in 2013. The negotiations for the contract extension are in progress and it is expected to be extended by 10 years. Recently, a bilateral meeting was held between the Sultanate and Japan, in Cambodia, during which the Japanese prime minister noted that currently, majority of Japan’s liquified natural gas (LNG) demand is being met by Brunei and renewing the contract will benefit both countries and improve energy efficiency in the region.
