The Brunei Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications is monitoring the feasibility of a potential rail network in collaboration with Malaysia, according to Minister Datuk Seri Setia Shamhary Datuk Paduka Mustapha. The Government stated that discussions on railway development were held during a bilateral meeting between Brunei and Malaysia last November. While Malaysia has initiated a feasibility study for a railway connecting Sabah and Sarawak, Brunei has yet to conduct its own assessment.

The minister confirmed that no feasibility studies have been undertaken for proposals received by the ministry, but authorities will continue to observe developments and coordinate with stakeholders to assess the viability of domestic and cross-border railway connectivity.
