The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has started commercial operations at the Bicol International Airport (BIA), the first international airport south of Metro Manila. Aboitiz Infracapital and DAA Incorporated will jointly manage and operate the BIA. Construction of the PHP4 billion airport was completed after 11 years.
Initially, commercial flights from and to BIA will be restricted to domestic daytime flights, with domestic night flights scheduled to start from November 7, 2021. Once operational at full capacity, the BIA is designed to accommodate approximately 2 million passengers annually. BIA is located on a 148 hectare site with a 2,500 meter runway, night landing and take-off facilities, an air traffic control tower, a passenger and freight terminal, a car park, a fire station, and other amenities.
