PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) will construct two cargo villages in Indonesia’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport and Kertajati Airport to improve the facilities’ e-commerce shipping service. The agency is currently conducting a tendering activity to form a strategic relationship with the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA) for development at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
The cargo village will be constructed over an area of 90-hectares and will be three times the size of the present cargo terminal. Once works are completed, cargo handelling capacity of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport will be increased from 700,000 tons per year to 1.5 to 2.2 million tons of cargo annually. Additionally, AP II will also venture into deployed further digitalisation to simplify and expedite cargo shipment operations.
Airports across Indonesia are expected to handle more than 1 million tons in cargo during 2022, a 23 per cent increase from the 859,330-cargo capacity recorded during 2021.
