Alstom has completed delivery of 106 new metro trains for Singapore’s North-South and East-West MRT lines, concluding a major fleet replacement programme. The fleet comprises 636 metro cars manufactured in Changchun, China, and replaces previous-generation vehicles operating on two of Singapore’s busiest rail corridors.
The six-car Movia trains can accommodate 220 seats and operate at speeds of up to 90 km/h. They feature energy-efficient bogies, regenerative braking, step-free boarding and multipurpose spaces, while automatic track inspection cameras support infrastructure condition monitoring. Around 95% of materials used are recyclable and more than 96% are recoverable at the end of the trains’ service life.
