The Government of Thailand has proposed THB75 billion (USD2.3 billion) in loan funding to expand its People’s Solar programme, supporting solar installations for up to 1.5 million households. The programme will provide a THB50,000 subsidy per household and expand eligibility beyond rooftop systems to include ground-mounted and floating solar installations.
The first phase will support 1 million households, followed by an additional 500,000 households. Participating households can install systems of up to 10 kW and sell up to 5 kW of surplus electricity to the grid at THB2.20 per kWh under 20-year contracts. Three state-owned banks will offer solar installation loans at an interest rate of 2.5 per cent annually, with a seven-year repayment period. Registration is expected to open on November 1, 2026, subject to an official announcement.
