Alcatel-Lucent is delivering a communication system for the new light rail network extension of the Kelana Jaya line in Malaysia. The system will facilitate high speed voice, data, and video traffic, as well as deliver essential services to ensure the safety and security of the line’s driverless trains, while keeping passengers informed about their journeys and bolstering the efficiency of its maintenance operations. Alcatel-Lucent will provide the core transmission system that is based on IP-switching and fibre optic technologies, which will enable real-time communication between trains and the central control. The Kelana Jaya line that operates between Kelana Jaya and Gombak within Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia is the fourth longest fully automated system in the world.
