Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) has introduced its locally manufactured Next Generation Tamaraw for public transport after the vehicle received certification as a Class 1 Modern Public Utility Vehicle (MPUV) under the government’s transport modernisation programme. The vehicle was unveiled on October 13, 2026, at TMP’s manufacturing plant and headquarters in Santa Rosa City, Laguna. Certified by the Department of Transportation in May 2026, the configuration can accommodate 11 passengers for intra-city travel.
The vehicle’s development incorporated feedback from local government units, transport cooperatives, operators and government agencies to address local transport requirements. The rollout builds on TMP’s investment of PHP5.5 billion in Tamaraw production, parts localisation and vehicle conversion capabilities. Since its launch in 2024, the locally manufactured platform has also supported Filipino designers, body builders, fabricators and parts suppliers.
TMP had produced 14,711 Tamaraw units as of the end of September 2026, taking cumulative production to 34,739 units over two years. According to the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, the model held a 49 per cent share of the one-tonne-and-above vehicle segment during the period.
