Levanta Renewables has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to China Energy Engineering Group (CEEC) for the Barotac Solar Power and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in the Philippines.
The contract covers the full EPC scope for a 166 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) facility integrated with an 80 MWh battery energy storage system in the Visayas region. The hybrid project is designed to enhance grid stability and ensure a more reliable power supply, particularly in island grids where intermittency remains a challenge.
The project marks a key milestone in Levanta’s greenfield portfolio expansion in the Philippines, combining its development and financing capabilities with CEEC’s global EPC expertise to deliver the project to high standards of execution, safety, and reliability.
Solar-plus-storage projects like this are increasingly being deployed in the country to support its target of achieving a 35 per cent renewable energy share by 2030, while improving system flexibility and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
