A consortium comprising Hateco Group, Hateco Seaport Co., Ltd. and APM Terminals has been selected to develop the Lien Chieu container port project in Da Nang.

The project, valued at over $USD1.72 billion, will be implemented over nearly 10 years and is expected to operate for 50 years from the date of land and sea allocation. The consortium is led by APM Terminals, which brings global expertise in port operations and logistics.

Located in Hai Van ward, the port will span approximately 172 hectares and include eight container berths with a total quay length of 2,750 metres. It will be capable of handling vessels of up to 18,000 TEUs, with a total designed capacity of 5.7 million TEUs annually.

The first phase (2025–2028) will involve the construction and operation of at least two berths along with supporting infrastructure. Container throughput is expected to reach 4 million TEUs per year within three years of initial operations.

The project is aligned with Vietnam’s long-term seaport development strategy and is expected to function as a green port and international transshipment hub. It will also include barge facilities to support cargo distribution and reduce pressure on road transport, contributing to lower logistics costs.
