A consortium led by DonaCoop and VinaCapital has submitted a proposal for a VND65 trillion (USD2.48 billion) metro line connecting Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) with Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai province. The nearly 40 km line would extend Metro Line 1 from Suoi Tien Station through Bien Hoa’s new administrative centre and onward to the airport, with an additional 5 km branch planned into the former Bien Hoa town.
The project is planned under a public-private partnership (PPP) using a build-transfer (BT) contract and will be fully financed by private capital. Implementation is expected within four to six years of site handover. The consortium has already conducted preliminary surveys, is exploring transit-oriented development opportunities, and will handle design and construction, while the government manages land clearance. The Government of Dong Nai is also planning another 21 km metro line from Suoi Tien to Ho Nai ward, estimated at VND30 trillion (USD1.14 billion).
