The Governments of Japan and the Philippines have celebrated a key milestone in the Davao City Bypass Project with the successful connection of the north and south portals of a 2.3 km tunnel, now the longest mountain tunnel in the Philippines. The bypass is expected to significantly reduce travel time and enhance regional connectivity in Mindanao.
The project continues Japan’s longstanding infrastructure assistance to the Philippines, which began with the Philippine-Japan Friendship Highway. Japan remains the Philippines’ largest ODA partner, contributing to major projects in transport, disaster resilience, and peacebuilding.
