The World Bank has approved a USD300 million loan to finance a new project aimed at improving the seismic resilience of public infrastructure in Metro Manila. The project will fund the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) critical equipment for improving communications and restoring mobility and transportation in Metro Manila following earthquakes. It will also enhance basic capacities and capabilities for organising operations and coordinating resources in the event of other disasters.
On May 8, 2018, the Government of the Philippines issued the Executive Order No. 52, requiring government agencies to take steps to ensure the resilience of public infrastructure such as roads, bridges, buildings, and hospitals in the Greater Metro Manila Area, in the event of a potentially catastrophic earthquake.
