The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) have inaugurated the newly renovated Kalibo International Airport (KIA). Construction on the International Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) of the KIA was completed on September 15, 2020.
The new PTB structure has boosted the airport’s passenger holding capacity, which is expected to reduce long lines and waiting times. The expanded building will also provide additional space for customs, immigration, and pre-screening workers, reducing the length of the passenger line. Repairs to nearly 4,000 square metres of deteriorating pavement on the airport’s apron were also completed, removing possible risks to aircraft parking.
KIA is an important part of regional transportation infrastructure development as part of the Government of Philippines’ ‘Build, Build, Build’ initiative, which aims to improve mobility, connectivity and accessibility in the country.
