Philippines’ Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) have signed an agreement for a technical assistance (TA) grant of USD683, 000 for the deployment of an intelligent transportation system (ITS) in Cebu. The project’s TA is scheduled to be implemented between April 2021 and December 2022.

USTDA’s technical aid for the project will include examining the financial, technical, environmental as well as other important features of the proposed ITS. USTDA will also determine physical upgrades and equipment  needed to strengthen the area’s logistical infrastructure. The solutions that will be evaluated as part of this grant will minimise traffic congestion, vehicle pollution and energy usage.

The TA grant for the Metro Cebu ITS proposal will support DOTr’s existing Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Program, which is funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the World Bank (WB).
