The Laos government of is planning to soon resume work on Phase II of the Laos-Thailand railway line, after the project was suspended in 2011. A 7.5 km long railway track will be laid under the project. The track will link the Thanalaeng railway station on the outskirts of Hadxaifong district to Khamsavat village in Xaysettha. Once construction works resume, the project is expected to take two years to complete. The Thailand government has provided over 203 billion kip for the project. Of this amount, 30 per cent has been extended as a grant and the remaining 70 per cent has been provided in the form of a low-interest loan.
