China-based Zhejiang Seaport Group, Port of Rotterdam Authority in Indonesia and PT Pelabuhan Indonesia I (Persero) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly build the Kuala Tanjung port.
The three parties will work together to improve the performance of the Kuala Tanjung international hub port, as well as oversee the creation of the local industrial park and the formation of a joint ventures (JV) in the industrial park. The plans for the development of the port, include the optimisation of the Kuala Tanjung multipurpose terminal by direct shipping from Kuala Tanjung to Ningbo and designing new business plans for the port.
The Port of Kuala Tanjung located in North Sumatra, is being designed to handle 60 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) per year, making it West Indonesia’s largest port.
