The World Bank has approved a loan of $31.5 million from the International Development Association for the Telecommunications Sector Reform Project in Myanmar. The project aims to develop the information, communication, and technology sector by establishing an enabling policy framework, as well as a regulatory and legal environment that will be conducive for a competitive telecommunications market. In addition, it will also cover the restructuring of the government-owned Myanmar Post and Telecommunications. Finally, a pilot programme to formulate a universal service strategy for the expansion of services to remote communities in the country will also be a part of the project.
