Works under the first phase of the Cong Hai 1 wind turbine production project, entailing an investment of about 1.2 trillion dong, have begun. The Saigon Industry Corporation, Power Generation Corporation 2, and HCMC Electric Power Trading Investment Corporation have invested in the two-phase project. In the first phase, three double-layer coaxial turbines that can generate 1 MW of energy would be manufactured and test-run before being put into use early next year. The investors will develop a large-scale wind turbine factory in the second phase. According to energy experts, the advantages of double-layer coaxial turbines are lower production costs and higher power generation capacity than the wind turbines currently available. At present, Vietnam has three operational wind farms: the 30 MW project in Binh Thuan province’s Tuy Phong district (investor: Vietnam Renewable Energy Company) the 6 MW project on Phu Quy Island off mainland Binh Thuan province (PetroVietnam Power Corporation); and the 16 MW wind park in Bac Lieu province (Cong Ly Company). The total capacity of these projects is 52 MW.
