The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) of the Philippines has commenced construction works on two bridge projects in Mindanao worth PHP2.13 billion. This includes the Malassa-Lupa Pula Bridge over Manalik Channel to the Tawi-Tawi Island as well as the Nalil-Sikkiat Bridge over Bongao Channel. Works are expected to take two years to complete.

The two bridge projects also include the development of the proposed Tongsinah Paniongan Bridge over Sanga-Sanga Channel to Papahag Island. This project is currently under the procurement stage.

The bridge projects will help to decongest Bongao and increase connectivity amongst the province’s islands. The two projects are part of the Asian Development Bank (ADB)-funded Improving Growth Corridors in Mindanao Road Sector Project covering around 280 km of national primary, secondary, and tertiary roads in the region.
