Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has announced plans to further expand the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on flights operated by its subsidiaries, including FireFly, MASwings, Amal and MAB Kargo, by 2023. The group plans to use SAF in both its passenger and cargo flights.

A scenario test assessing the readiness of MAG’s subsidiaries has already been conducted. Meanwhile, Petco Trading (UK) and Petronas Dagangan Bhd (PDB) will also explore potential opportunities to advance sustainability, including the supply and adoption of SAF at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). PDB will also explore brownfield and greenfield opportunities for a bio-refinery processing plant to meet future demand of SAF.

This announcement is in line with MAG’s aim to achieve net zero carbon emissions from its operations by 2050. MAG operated its first commercial passenger flight between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore fuelled by SAF in June 2022.
