The construction work on the VND 336.63 trillion Long Thanh International Airport in the southern province of Dong Nai is likely to begin in May 2021. The first phase of the project, which is expected to be completed by 2025, involves an investment of around VND 111.69 trillion. The airport will have a runway and a terminal with capacity to handle 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo per year after the first phase is completed. Further, after the completion of all three phases by 2025, the airport will be able to handle 100 million passengers per year. This will help reduce congestion at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, which is currently operating at far above its designed capacity.
