PT Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta (PT MRT Jakarta), the developer and operator of the mass rapid transit (MRT) system in Jakarta, has partnered with India-based Route Mobile Limited (Route Mobile) to deploy a WhatsApp-based ticketing solution. The solution allows passengers to purchase tickets from vending machines, and to receive essential travel information and unique quick response (QR) codes via WhatsApp, thereby streamlining the boarding process. Upon purchasing tickets from MRT Jakarta vending machines, passengers receive three automated WhatsApp messages: instructions on using the QR code, a unique QR code for entry at the origin station, and a unique QR code for exiting at the destination station.
Additionally, Route Mobile will support PT MRT Jakarta’s marketing efforts through targeted email campaigns, thereby increasing passenger engagement. These activities are part of a year-long agreement aimed at streamlining the ticketing experience and introducing new marketing capabilities.
The Jakarta MRT comprises one line which spans 15.7 km and covers 13 stations. Between January and November 2024, it had a ridership of 36.32 million passengers.
