Western Digital (WD) Malaysia has received three recognitions at the Sustainability & CSR Malaysia Awards 2026 and Asia Sustainability Personality Awards 2026 for its efforts in sustainable manufacturing, ESG leadership and environmental management. WD Malaysia was named Company of the Year (Manufacturing & Technology) under the Green Innovation & Sustainability Transformation category, while Dr. Chandramogan Anamirtham, Senior Vice President of Global Operations at WD, received the ESG Visionary Leader Award and Ts. Freddy Kho, Manager of Environmental Health & Safety at WD, received the Sustainability Practitioner Award.
The recognitions highlight WD’s sustainability initiatives across its manufacturing operations in Sarawak, Penang and Johor, including energy responsibility, resource efficiency, workforce development and community engagement. The company is also advancing storage technologies that support more efficient AI infrastructure by increasing storage density while reducing power consumption, cooling requirements and physical infrastructure needs.
WD Malaysia’s sustainability initiatives form part of Western Digital’s broader targets of achieving 100 per cent carbon-free energy by FY2030 and net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by FY2032. Its Sarawak facility has also achieved a 100 per cent Scope 2 market-based emissions reduction since FY2024 through a Renewable Energy Certificate agreement with Sarawak Energy. The company continues to invest in advanced substrate production and glass substrate manufacturing in Malaysia to support growing global demand for AI-driven data storage.
