State-owned operator Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT) has submitted its restructuring plan to the Ministry of Information and Communications. This is in line with the government’s plan to increase competition in the country’s telecom market. VNPT is seeking to separate its operations into three businesses – VNPT-Net, specialising in network infrastructure; VNPT-Vinaphone, a provider of mobile telecom services; and a multimedia unit, VNPT-Media. The three newly created firms will operate independently, and are likely to enhance the group’s competitiveness and increase efficiency.
