Vingroup, one of the largest conglomerates in Vietnam, has secured approval from the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee to submit a proposal to develop an urban rail line in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). The project is proposed to be executed on a public–private partnership (PPP) model. Vingroup will be funding the project and will have to submit a proposal for the project to the government within 12 months. Post the approval of the proposal, the city government will invite bids to execute and fund the project.
In April 2025, the company had submitted a proposal to develop an urban rail line connecting the city centre with the coastal district of Can Gio, approximately 50 km from downtown HCMC. The proposed line will span around 48.5 km and cover two stations. It will have an estimated ridership of 30,000–40,000 passengers per hour per direction (PHPD). Trains operating at a speed of up to 250 km/hr are proposed to be deployed on the line.
