The Ministry of Transport (MoT) of Vietnam has announced plans to develop the 38 km Thu Thiem–Long Thanh light rail transit (LRT) project linking HCMC and Dong Nai Province. The project is expected to commence operation by 2030. The LRT will connect the Long Thanh International Airport, which is scheduled to open in 2025, with the Thu Thiem New Urban Area in Tudok City.
The cost of the project is estimated at VND40.5 trillion and is part of the national railway system development plan 2021–2030. The rail project has been added to a list of national projects that call for foreign investment in the 2021–2025 period.
