The Government of Vietnam is expected to approve plans for the North-South Express Railway Project by 2025. The move is a part of the country’s national railway plan for 2021-2030, with a vision for 2050. The pre-feasibility study was completed in 2019 and is currently under review by the State Appraisal Council.

The proposed investment policy will be submitted to the National Assembly during the 2021-2026 term. The government is aiming to approve the investment policy and commence construction before 2030.

The high-speed rail (HSR) project will span around 1,545 km across 20 provinces in Vietnam and will have a maximum operating speed of around 320 km/h. The project is estimated to cost USD58.71 billion. The entire North-South Express Railway Line will open to passenger service by 2050.
