The Government of Vietnam plans to complete 34 transport projects and component projects in 2026, including 24 overseen by the Ministry of Construction and 10 managed by local authorities. Completed works include three components of the Bien Hoa–Vung Tau Expressway, the Cao Bang city bypass, a northern mountainous provinces connectivity project, and upgrades to the Hanoi–Vinh and Vinh–Nha Trang railway sections.
Another 23 projects or components are under construction, although several schemes are behind schedule due to land clearance issues, construction material shortages, higher fuel prices and delays involving contractors. The ministry also plans to start 10 projects in 2026, including Ninh Cuong Bridge, improvements to the Hoa Duyet–Thanh Luyen railway section, completion of Cu Mong Tunnel, a road linking Gia Binh Airport with Hanoi and the Vinh–Thanh Thuy Expressway.
Rail freight volume declined 16.6 per cent during the first eight months of 2026, while freight turnover fell 6.8 per cent, highlighting the need to improve multimodal connections and rail competitiveness.
