The Government of Vietnam aims to integrate 6,000 MW of offshore wind power into its energy plan by 2030, with operations starting between 2030 and 2035. The country targets 113,503-139,097 MW by 2050 and plans to develop offshore wind, solar, and land-based wind energy to support domestic and export markets.
The government expressed support for Vietnam’s renewable energy ambitions. German-based firm PNE has been studying the USD4.6 billion Hon Trau offshore wind project since 2019. It signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Binh Dinh province in 2022 for a 2,000 MW project, but its proposed location is closer to shore than Vietnam’s Electricity Law 2024 requires for offshore designation.
