State-owned EVN transmission subsidiary National Power Transmission Corporation (EVN NPT) plans to spend VND 19.5 trillion in 2015 on transmission projects to improve the supply of electricity in the country’s southern region. The move aims to address the overload being currently experienced on the 500 kV north-south transmission line. In 2015, the company plans to complete and put into operation 72 projects, including the 500 kV line between northern Son La and Lai Chau provinces, a 500 kV line in central Ha Tinh province’s Vung Ang economic zone, and upgrading of the 500 kV substation in Son La. In addition, it plans to initiate 61 more projects during 2015. In 2014, EVN NPT spent VND 17.99 trillion on the expansion of the country’s high voltage grid and put into operation 52 transmission lines at 220 kV and 500 kV levels. It also began the construction of 55 projects, most of which are aimed at improving power supply for Hanoi and the southern region.
