The last stretch of the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway was commissioned on February 8, 2015. The four-lane expressway allows vehicles to travel at a speed of up to 120 km per hour, the highest in the country. The newly commissioned Long Thanh-Dau Giay section covers about 32 km of the expressway’s total length of 55 km. The 23 km Ho Chi Minh City-Dong Nai’s Long Thanh district section was commissioned in January 2014, and has managed to reduce the travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to the beach town of Vung Tau from 150 minutes to 80 minutes. Construction work on the 20.6 trillion dong expressway began in October 2009. It is part of the North-South Expressway connecting Hanoi and Can Tho City covering a total distance of over 1,800 km.
