Vietnam Electricity (EVN) will spend USD45.26 million to connect a power plant in Laos with the national grid in an effort to facilitate the cross-border import of electricity. The 45-km-long line will connect the Monsoon wind power plant in Laos with Thanh My substation in Quang Nam, Vietnam. Construction works for the line commenced at the end of September 2023.

Agribank is financing the project.

Once the line is operational by the end of 2024, around 2,500 MW of wind power will be supplied from Laos to Vietnam.

In 2019, the Government of Vietnam agreed to purchase around 3,000 MW annually from the Government of Laos till 2025, scaling up to 5,000 MW between 2026 to 2030.
