The Governments of Vietnam and South Korea have agreed to deepen cooperation in nuclear energy, including the potential development and financing of a new nuclear power plant in Vietnam.

The proposed collaboration would cover both project development and financial structuring, reflecting Vietnam’s renewed interest in nuclear energy as part of its long-term energy strategy. The country has already signed cooperation agreements with Russia for its first nuclear reactors, indicating a multi-partner approach to building nuclear capacity.

For South Korea, the partnership aligns with its efforts to expand overseas nuclear projects and strengthen its role as a global supplier of nuclear technology and expertise. For Vietnam, it supports energy security goals amid rising electricity demand and the need for stable, low-carbon power sources.

The initiative remains at a preliminary stage, with further feasibility assessments and negotiations expected before any formal project commitments are made.
