The Government of Indonesian has allocated an additional USD274 million in funding to PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI) to speed up work on the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (HSR). The project is currently facing a cost overrun of USD1.17 billion due to multiple delays.

The progress of the Jakarta-Bandung HSR project has reached 76 per cent. Delivery of 11 high-speed electric multiple units (EMUs) by China Railway is also expected in the upcoming months.

The 143.2 km HSR rail project, scheduled to be completed in 2023, is part of the Government of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Once operational, it will reduce travel time between Jakarta and Bandung from three hours to 40 minutes.
