Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hong Kong-based MTR Corporation Limited to collaborate on a transit-oriented development (TOD) project at Bukit Chagar RTS station in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
The partnership will cover various aspects of the project including technical design and construction planning to integrate the development with the RTS rail infrastructure and the ICQ complex. Long-term planning for the surrounding areas will be explored, and the development mix and scale will be determined. Working groups will be set up to further explore the details.
Once completed, the TOD will be seamlessly linked with the ICQ complex and Bukit Chagar RTS station, providing direct connectivity between Johor Bahru and Woodlands North station in Singapore. Moreover, the TOD will integrate with existing transport systems in Johor Bahru, including the KTM ETS, city buses, and the future Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). A range of amenities will also be provided such as hospitality services, healthcare, and wellness centres.
