Track laying works have commenced on the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) in Malaysia. China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC) is the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning contractor for the ECRL project. The ECRL is a part of the Government of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
The line will span 648 km and cover 20 stations connecting Kota Bharu in Kelantan to Port Klang in Selangor. As of September 2023, construction works were 52.9 per cent completed. Trains will travel at a maximum speed of 160 km/hr. The line is scheduled to be completed in 2026.
